Recently, the Offshore Energy Island project, jointly developed by China Energy Group Hydrogen Technology Co., Ltd., CIMC Technology Development (Guangdong) Co., Ltd., CIMC Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd., and Ally Hydrogen Energy Co., Ltd., successfully realized the process technology of synthesizing hydrogen and ammonia from renewable energy power in harsh sea conditions, obtaining an Approval in Principle (AIP) from the China Classification Society.
Mr. Wang Yeqin, Chairman of Ally Hydrogen Energy, attended the AIP certificate awarding ceremony. As a deeply involved enterprise in the Offshore Energy Island project, Ally Hydrogen Energy is responsible for the complete skid-mounted equipment and commissioning work for ammonia synthesis and has received the AIP for the “Offshore Ammonia Production Process Design.” This technological innovation breakthrough holds significant importance for the implementation of China’s marine energy development strategy.
“I, along with Ally, am very optimistic about the development prospects of green ammonia,” said Chairman Wang Yeqin in his speech. “Green ammonia, as a Power-to-C chemical product, has many advantages. First, it is a ‘zero-carbon’ energy source. Secondly, ammonia has high energy density, is easy to liquefy, and easier to store and transport. Distributed small-scale green ammonia installations are more suitable for current application needs. The volatility and randomness of wind and solar renewable energy are difficult to reconcile with the stability required by large-scale ammonia synthesis installations. Large installations involve complex load adjustments and start-stop procedures that require a long time. In contrast, small-scale distributed green ammonia installations are more flexible.”
The successful certification of this project marks a new significant progress in China’s offshore renewable energy development. In the future, based on the technological accumulation of the Offshore Energy Island project, Ally Hydrogen Energy will further optimize and promote applications in collaboration with various parties, making important contributions to solving the power grid consumption issues brought about by offshore wind farms in deep sea areas.
